A number of Dalbeattie Primary pupils have received certificates and Young Writer’s pens following their entries into the Rotary Club’s Young Writers competition.
In December, children in primary five upwards were given the opportunity to write a piece about the environment.
The written entry could have been in any genre but had to deal with the topic of the environment and was to be no more than 500 words if written in prose.
More than 50 entries were submitted to Dalbeattie Rotary Club where Rotarian Grace Kelly oversaw the judging along with fellow judges from the club.
Taking first place and winning a £25 book token was Bonnie McGlashan. Second and receiving a £20 book token was Alex Nelson with Eilidh Tallontire receiving a £15 for third.
Fourth and recipient of a £10 book token was Cameron Hitchell.
In addition, former pupil Rebecca Hird received a highly commended and a book token for £10.
The school is very grateful to Dalbeattie Rotary Club for inviting the young learners to take part and giving them this wonderful opportunity to showcase their writing skills while also presenting their ideas about a topic which so important.
