A well-known Dalbeattie couple are believed to be the first couple in the town to receive a diamond wedding anniversary card from the new king.
Tommy and Phemie Henderson marked their milestone on September 20 – less than a fortnight after the death of Queen Elizabeth.
Plans to receive a congratulatory card from the Lord Lieutenant were cancelled as a result but they have now received the traditional greeting from King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.
Tommy, who is from Dalbeattie, and Phemie, who is from Port William, married at the old parish church in Stranraer on September 20, 1962. Phemie’s father was the first manager of the town’s creamery, which belonged to the Scottish Milk Marketing Board.
They set up home in Dalbeattie, where Tommy was an electrician, before setting up Dalbeattie Museum in 1993.
The family celebrated the diamond wedding anniversary at the Eden Bank in Dumfries.
