Two Dalbeattie curlers have been crowned Scottish champions.
Orrin Carson led his rink, made up of brother Logan and Dumfries duo Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb, to the Scottish Curling Junior Men’s title.
They defeated the Dumfries team of Jack Strawhorn 6-3 in an exciting final in Aberdeen to win the title and secure a place at the world championships in February.
After a successful round-robin stage, the two teams faced each other in the page play-off, Team Strawhorn winning to claim their place in the final.
The Carsons were given another chance to progress when they faced R Craik in the semi-final and they triumphed 10-4 – a four-point gain just before the break putting them into a lead they weren’t to lose.
That put them into the final and gave them a chance for revenge. Team Strawhorn took an early lead with a single in the second end, but a deuce in the fourth and a blank fifth put the Carsons 2-1 up.
Another single saw them extend their lead but a two from Team Strawhorn saw the sides level in the final end.
And Team O Carson held their nerves to score three points and take a 6-3 win.
It was a good tournament for Dumfries Young Curlers as the rink of Fay Henderson won the women’s title.
