Dakota Johnson has opened up about her experience working on Fifty Shades of Grey, with her alleging that there were "a lot of disagreements" behind-the-scenes.
The actor, 32, played Anastasia Steele in the erotic drama alongside Jamie Dornan, 40, as Christian Grey - with the 2015 film based on the best-selling book by E.L. James, 59.
The project spawned two sequels and led to a number of award nominations, with the trilogy having included Fifty Shades Darker (2017) and Fifty Shades Freed (2018).
Johnson has now spoken about what it was like working on the first film, with her suggesting that it was a "tricky" experience that involved some creative differences.
Johnson recalled her experience for a profile with Vanity Fair recently, in which she spoke about author and co-producer James - whose real name is Erika Mitchell.
The actor said she had "signed up to do a very different version of the film" than it ended up being, with her citing the film studio and James as being part of the problem.
Discussing James, who was involved with the film, Johnson said: "She had a lot of creative control, all day, every day, and she just demanded that certain things happen."
Johnson said there were parts of the book which she felt wouldn't suit a film adaption, citing her character's inner monologue as an example, which felt "incredibly cheesy".
The lead - who is the daughter of actors Don Johnson, 72, and Melanie Griffith, 64 - described her experience on the first film as being "always a battle" behind-the-scenes.
She alleged James scrapped a version of the script after Charlie Hunnam, 42 - who had been cast as Christian - dropped out of the project, with Dornan later replacing him.

Johnson recalled rewriting scenes using scrapped dialogue and said she filmed different versions of takes - so there were some for what James' wanted and for another vision.
She said that the experience became "something crazy," though the actor noted that she is ultimately "proud" of the film as "everything turns out the way it's supposed to."
And when asked if she regrets being involved, Johnson said: "If I had known at the time that's what it was going to be like, I don't think anyone would've done it. It would've been like, 'Oh, this is psychotic.' But no, I don't regret it."
Johnson however assured that she was "treated really well," with her further commenting that James was "always kind" to her and she's "grateful" to have been cast in her role.
And addressing her relationship with co-star Dornan, she said that he is "like a brother" to her. She added: "I love him so, so, so much. And we were really there for each other."
The Mirror approached reps of E.L. James, Focus Features and Universal Pictures for comment.
