In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley, who portrayed Jedi Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, addressed rumors about Rey's upcoming Star Wars movie. Although it's one of the most exciting projects among Star Wars upcoming movies, little is known about it beyond that it will be set approximately 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
While there have been some updates on Rey's new Star Wars movie, it seems that even Ridley herself may not be quite sure of the plot. In an interview with Collider, Daisy Ridley revealed that she hasn't read through the script for Rey's new movie. In addition to indicating that the movie may still be titled New Jedi Order, as it's long been rumored to be, Ridley explained: 'I know a script is happening, and I'm going to be reading it imminently, which is very exciting.'
Given the ambiguity even for Daisy Ridley and the currently unfinished script, it seems as though many of the rumors regarding the plot of Rey's movie are likely unfounded. In the same interview, Daisy Ridley confirmed that filming has not begun for the movie and, although the original goal was to commence filming by the end of 2024, the writers' strike delayed the project somewhat.
Even so, Ridley remained optimistic that at the latest, filming would begin by early 2025. This is particularly exciting because while neither Rey's new Star Wars movie nor the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie have confirmed release dates, this timeline suggests that the two may be released in proximity to one another.
The Mandalorian & Grogu project is similarly vague in terms of the details that have been revealed thus far, but both projects reflect massive opportunities for the larger Star Wars franchise. In particular, given that the title is rumored to still be New Jedi Order, Rey's new movie could very well explore what Rey Skywalker's own Jedi Order would look like with her at the helm.
There are also a number of other questions that remain, including who of the sequel trilogy cast may return for the movie, leaving a number of doors open for the movie's trajectory.
No matter the plans underway, Daisy Ridley's return remains an exciting update to the franchise. This movie will be the first to elucidate the events following the Skywalker Saga, which concluded with The Rise of Skywalker, and it will therefore explore brand-new terrain, entering into an era not yet defined in Star Wars.
Particularly as Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has indicated that Rey's upcoming Star Wars movie will be something special, this could mean major, thrilling changes for Star Wars.
