Daisy Edgar-Jones admits ‘disappointment’ at missing out on Emmy nomination

Daisy Edgar-Jones has spoken out about her “initial disappointment” after missing out on an Emmy nomination.

The 22-year-old, who starred as Marianne in the hit BBC Three drama Normal People, was snubbed by the American awards show despite her hugely impressive performance as the complex teen.

While her co-star, Paul Mescal, received a nomination for Lead Actor in Limited Series or Movie for his portrayal of Connell in the adaption of Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel, Edgar-Jones has revealed she feels she needs a little more acting experience before she starts raking in the trophies.

“I was obviously initially disappointed, but I’m only 22, I’ve still got to earn my stripes,” she told Grazia.

“I want to keep dreaming and working towards that. And I’m so proud of the others. I know first-hand just how special Paul’s performance was.”

With Normal People having been released while the vast majority of the world was on lockdown, Edgar-Jones explained she was yet to celebrate the success of the series with the entire crew involved.

She was, however, briefly reunited with Mescal, 24, when the pair hosted an award at the socially-distanced TV Baftas earlier this year.

“It was so lovely to see Paul, from two metres away,” Edgar-Jones said. “It was the first time that we’d done an event together, because everything else we’ve done has been over a laptop camera. ‘We were like, 'Oh my gosh, maybe this is real and not just some weird lockdown dream I had!’

“We had a quick drink afterwards, but we are still desperate to properly celebrate with the whole crew.”
