'Daddy changed the world': George Floyd's six-year-old daughter pays heartbreaking tribute to her father

The young daughter of George Floyd has paid tribute to her father, as the shockwaves from his death continue to convulse the US.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Gianna Floyd, 6, is seen sitting on the shoulders of former NBA player Stephen Jackson.

Smiling, she tells him that “Daddy changed the world”. Mr Jackson repeats the phrase before asking again what her father did, and Gianna replies: “Daddy changed the world."

The former basketball star, who was a friend of Mr Floyd's, has said he plans to support the young girl now she has no father, CBS News reported

The clip emerged as protests touched off by Mr Floyd’s death in Minneapolis on May 25 took place for an eighth consecutive night across America.

The 46-year-old African American died after a white police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck for almost nine minutes during an arrest. Former officer Derek Chauvin, 44, has been charged with third-degree murder .

At a press conference in Minneapolis on Tuesday night, Gianna’s mother Roxie Washington said she wanted “justice” for Mr Floyd.

Fighting back tears as she made her first public comments since his death, she said: “At the end of the day, they get to go home and be with their families. Gianna does not have a father.

"He will never see her grow up, graduate. He will never walk her down the aisle.

"If there's a problem she is having and she needs her dad, she doesn't have that anymore."

In response Mr Jackson told her: "There's a lot of stuff you said that he's gonna miss — that I'm gonna be there for. I'm gonna walk her down the aisle.

“I'm gonna be there for her. I'm gonna be here to wipe your tears. I'm gonna be here for you and Gigi.

"Floyd might not be here, but I'm here for her, I'm here to get justice, and we're gonna get justice for my brother."

Mr Jackson reportedly became friends with Mr Floyd after meeting him in Texas, and described him as his “twin” because they looked so alike.
