Dad warns parents as man tries to 'kidnap' Cumbernauld schoolboy

Police have launched an investigation into reports that a schoolboy was subject to an attempted 'kidnap' in Cumbernauld.

The alleged incident took place in Cumbernauld at around 9.25am on Tuesday, February 8.

The boy's concerned dad took to social media to warn other parents in the area, the Daily Record reports.

He wrote: "Warning someone tried to kidnap [my son] this morning going to school.

"A white van approached him, a man started to scream at him to get into a van. Please be aware.

"He is fine and the police have been informed. Westfield area."

Police Scotland confirmed they were alerted to an incident on Westfield Drive, Cumbernauld, where a "man stopped his white van and gestured to a young boy aged nine who was walking along the street".

Officers are investigating the alleged incident and are working to trace the driver.

Anyone with information is being urged to come forward and contact police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.25am, on Tuesday, 8 February, 2022, police received a report of an incident in Westfield Drive, Cumbernauld where a man stopped his white van and gestured to a young boy aged nine who was walking along the street.

"At this time police have been unable to establish if there was any criminality however officers are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and trace the driver.

"We have not received any further reports of such incidents in this area.

"If anyone has any information on this, or has any concerns, please contact Police Scotland via 101."
