Dad pulls daughter out of nursery after accident leaves her with traumatic eye injury

An angry dad has been left disgusted after daughter had to go to hospital following an accident at nursery.

Neil Dumoulin was left shocked and angry after Delilah, three, was left bloodied and bruised, and extremely upset following the incident on Monday, May 15.

Bosses at Little Green Rascals have launched an investigation into the incident and will share the conclusions when it is finished.

Neil told Yorkshire Live that he received a phone call from staff to tell him Delilah had fallen and hurt herself, just before Neil left to collect her. He took a photograph of Delilah, which shows her bloodied and bruised eye. Neil then took her to A&E in York where the 1.5cm gash was closed with glue.

The dad-of-five has submitted a complaint to industry watchdog Ofsted. Neil said his daughter had previously suffered minor injuries while playing, which were reported to him by nursery staff.

Neil admitted his daughter had been 'clumsy' in the past but he was so concerned about the most recent incident he has withdrawn Delilah from the nursery.

The nurseries' accident report said that staff had not seen how Delilah injured her eye, however she told a staff member she hit it on a chair. The staff member found her on the floor with the injury to her eye, the report added.

Neil said the family had been left "very traumatised" and Delilah was struggling to sleep, had been crying and was in pain.

A nursery spokesperson said: "The safety of children, team members and visitors is the top priority at Little Green Rascals. We are saddened that an accident has occurred to a child within our care.

"We are conducting a robust investigation and a summary of findings will be shared with the parents at the point of conclusion.

"We liaise and work with regulatory bodies where applicable and are in contact with the Local Authority and Ofsted."

Martin Kelly, corporate director of children and education from City of York Council, said: "We are aware of the situation that took place at Little Green Rascals Nursery, and we are engaged with relevant bodies to provide guidance and gain appropriate assurance."
