The father of legendary Wigan wrestler The British Bulldog has died, aged 84.
The British Bulldog - real name Davey Boy Smith - died from a heart defect in 2002 and had been survived by a number of family members, including his dad Sid Smith. Sid's granddaughter Georgia has now confirmed that her grandfather has passed away.
Posting on the official British Bulldog Instagram account, which she runs, Georgia wrote on Tuesday (February 28): "It is with great sadness that I have to share that my Grandad Sid Smith has passed away. While you can never be prepared for devastating news, knowing he’s no longer suffering, provides a level of relief to our family.

"We’re gonna miss you Grandad you’re reunited with Nana Joyce, Tracy, my dad, and Terrance. Thank you again to @shelbyraee95 and my aunt @joannesmith2808 for being there, helping him every step of the way. RIP Grandad. I’m very grateful we could all be together in Cardiff for Clash at the Castle."
Clash at the Castle was a pay-per-view wrestling event hosted by the WWE in Cardiff, in September 2022. Georgia, who lives in Tampa, Florida, flew to the event and met up with Sid, who still lived in Golborne.
The day after sharing the news of Sid's death, Georgia wrote on Instagram: "Thank you to everyone that’s reached out, and sent their condolences about the passing of my beloved Grandfather Sid Smith. Very sad, and facing the reality of not being able to see him again breaks my heart."
The British Bulldog was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020, after winning the Intercontinental Championship, World Tag Team Championships, and European Championship, during his time with the wrestling company. Georgia has previously lent her support to a petition to get him recognised on the Wigan 'Walk of Fame'.
