Dad of the man who died in Michael Barrymore's swimming pool wants to meet him

The dad of the man who died in Michael Barrymore's swimming pool has said he would like to meet the former TV star.

But Terry Lubbock added he was not well enough yet to 'deal with the stress' of such a meeting to discuss the death of his son Stuart in March 2001.

Asked about Barrymore's interview on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Terry said: "I'm astounded that he's still trying to rehabilitate his public image.

"First the Piers Morgan show and now this. He's obviously wanting to resurrect his career with ITV's help.

"I've heard he might be going on I'm A Celebrity which wouldn't surprise me."

Terry said wanting to find out what happened to his son has "kept him alive" as he struggles with his health.

He continued: "I'd love to meet him to ask him some questions about what happened to Stuart but my health has been poorly and I couldn't deal with the stress of it just now. Maybe in the future.

"In a way Barrymore has kept me alive because I'm determined to keep fighting for justice for what happened to my son. I nearly died last year (he had a brain bleed) but I'm still here fighting."

After Barrymore was interviewed by Piers Morgan, Terry, 74, said he was 'an outstanding actor who deserved an Oscar for his performance'.

He said he's always maintained the former entertainer could have helped the police more with their investigation into Stuart's death at his home in Roydon, Essex.

31-year-old Stuart was found in the star's pool after a drug-fuelled party in 2001.

Barrymore, 67, was held in 2007 on suspicion of rape and murder but freed without charge.

However the scandal ended his glittering TV career.

Michael Barrymore confirms he will speak to Stuart Lubbock's dad for 'closure'

Today on GMB Barrymore said he is willing to speak to Terry so that he can have "closure" .

"I would like to speak to him... I would like him to get closure in the right way.

He added: "I'd love to meet together to get some closure or push the police to do it properly."
