Dad of 'much-loved' boy, 13, pays tribute as he asks people to line the streets ahead of his funeral

The father of a 'much-loved' teenager has paid tribute to his son as he asks people to line the streets ahead of his funeral.

Rory Glancey, 13, from Wigan, died earlier this month at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

His devastated father, Darren said his son's death on October 11 came as 'a complete shock to everyone'.

He added that there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the Standish Community High School pupil's death.

In an emotional tribute, Mr Glancey said: "He was a salt-of-the-earth kid.

"No one had a bad word to say about him.

"He was such a kind and loving young boy and was very much-loved.

"He was a good kid and was well-behaved and good mannered, which we were always proud of.

"He always said please and thank you."

Rory was born in Wigan and attended Woodfield Primary School before moving on to Standish Community High School, where he was a year nine pupil at the time of his death.

A keen actor, he also attended the Willpower Youth Theatre, in Wigan.

"He loved his drama and acting," said Mr Glancey. "He was quite a good actor.

"His interests were the same as any other kid, computers and stuff like that.

"He loved DC and Marvel.

"He was very independent. He loved his family and had so much passion."

With Rory seriously ill in hospital, his family were forced to make the difficult decision to turn off his life support machine.

"It is the worst thing you could do as a parent," said Mr Glancey.

"We were very close. He gave me the best 13 years I could have asked for.

"I would not change the time I had with him, I just wish it had been longer."

The family now want to give him a fitting send-off, and are asking people to line Wigan Lane at midday on Friday ahead of his funeral.

The procession will travel along the road, between The Boar's Head pub and The Cherry Gardens, as it makes its way to Charnock Richard Crematorium, where a private service will be held for close friends and family.

Mr Glancey said: "We want to give him a good send off and show that he is loved and appreciated no matter what.

"While at primary school, Rory studied a book called 'Wonder' and he saved this quote - 'everyone should have at least one standing ovation in their lifetime'.

"We are asking people just to stand and clap and celebrate his life."
