Dad of Love Island's Liam jets out to meet him as 'proud' family break silence on exit

Love Island star Liam Llewellyn 's dad has jetted out to Mallorca to be with his son following his early exit from the show.

The 22-year-old dramatically quit the show last night after telling his fellow islanders he didn't think the experience was for him.

It came after a difficult few days for the star, who had his original partner Gemma Owen 'stolen' by bombshell Davide.

Liam was handed a lifeline when two new girls entered, but neither of them admitted to fancying him after he took them on dates.

Before entering the show, Liam spoke of his fear of rejection and said dealing with that on TV would leave him vulnerable.

As viewers watched the sad scenes play out on Friday night's show, Liam's devoted dad was making his way to meet his son.

A source told The Sun: "Liam’s confidence was totally knocked when he lost Gemma so when he then also didn’t manage to catch Ekin-Su or Afia’s eye he started to totally overthink everything he did.

“He just began to worry about everything and then felt guilty that he wasn’t enjoying the whole experience like he felt he was meant to, so called it quits.

“At this point Liam feels really upset. His dad David flew straight out to Majorca to be with him.”

Following Liam's departure, the star's sister Georgia - who has been running his social media account - answered fans questions about why he chose to go on the show in the first place.

Georgia revealed a 'summer of love' on ITV2 hadn't been Liam's own idea and he was in fact scouted by producers.

One asked: "What made Liam want to go on Love Island?"

Georgia replied: "They approached him in January and it started from there."

Despite losing Gemma Owen to chiselled hunk Davide Sanclimenti, Liam felt the love from fans watching the show.

One tweeted: "Big up to this champ. It will be a shame not watching him around the villa. He should be proud. Representing the Welsh in a great way."

Sharing her thanks for the support her brother had been given, Georgia said: "Thank you all so much for all the love and support you have shown Liam during his time in the villa since making his decision to leave.

"He has remained true to himself throughout and we couldn't make be more proud."

However, despite the love and affection, Liam's fellow Islanders were shocked by his decision.

As he gathered them around the fire pit in dramatic scenes, he said: "Obviously we all came here for the same sort of reason, but I haven't been giving 100 per cent Liam. I know what 100 per cent Liam is and I'm miles off that.

"Trying to find someone you leave the villa with that you love, that's the goal. But when you're not feeling that, it makes it a very hard sort of time to find that. I've been thinking long and hard, it isn't spur of the moment, so I've made a decision I'm going to leave the villa."

Paying tribute to his 'amazing' co-stars, Liam promised his pals he would be in touch after the show.

The Welsh wizard was initially paired with Gemma on the show until Italian snack Davide made a move.

Last night the daughter of footballer Michael admitted she felt "proper guilty" after Liam's bombshell.

Speaking to the Masters student, she gushed: "I wasn’t expecting that from you. It’s just a shame because we started it together and it will be weird not having you around, I do care for you and it will be weird."

Love Island continues on Monday on ITV2 at 9
