Dad-of-4 stranded at Mexican hospital after suffering seizure and banging his head

A dad -of-four has been left stranded in a Mexican hospital after he suffered a seizure and banged his head at a hotel on the last day of his holiday.

Paul McKenna had been enjoying a two-week getaway with his family in Mexico when he had the freak accident.

At their hotel in Cancun the 33-year-old suffered a seizure and hit his head on the floor of their hotel room on the very last day of their holiday, The Liverpool Echo reported.

Paul, from Bootle, Liverpool, had been due to fly back to the UK with his wife, Amy, children and parents-in-law on Sunday, August 21.

But instead he had to be rushed to hospital following the accident and now remains on life support.

In order to access the specialist treatment needed to keep him stable the dad was bounced around three different hospital in just two days.

He and his family are currently based around an hour outside of Cancun and it is not clear whether the electrician suffered a brain haemorrhage or whether he had a stroke.

Paul's friends are currently raising money for avid cricket player at Maghull Cricket Club, with pal Joe Snellgrove saying: "They think it started from some sort of bug because the family had been ill.

"Then on Sunday, he had a seizure, fell and banged his head. He was then induced into a coma.

"The current concern is that he's had a brain haemorrhage but the first thought was he had a stroke.

"Still there is uncertainty surrounding what has actually happened.”

Joe added: "We're devastated. He's a brilliant fella and he'd help everyone, like last year during a storm I had some damage to my house and he came out to help straight away.

"We lost our chairman at Maghull Cricket Club who did everything [at the club] and Paul picked up all the slack.

"He does all the things around there. He's really well-known in the community and everyone's feeling very upset and concerned."

Joe, who has known Paul for 20 years, said he would do "anything for anyone", with Joe and friend James Stanley, now looking to raise as much money as they can to pay for the medical care while they're stuck in Mexico.

The fundraiser has seen 230 donations at the time of writing this, with Jamie Carragher chipping in £5,000 to help the dad.
