Dad in tears as lost son found after 'slipping past teachers' at school

A dad was moved to tears as his lost son was found after 'slipping past teachers' at school. Lukas Hunka, 25, says his son had an 'angel' taking care of him after he was found nearby the school after a frantic search.

The incident occurred last week in London, when the 25-year-old went to the school of his son, Lukas, to pick him up. However, after arriving at Newbury Park Primary School at 3:30pm, the father was greeted by a panicked teacher, reports MyLondon.

Lukas says he asked a teacher for his son and immediately could tell there was an issue. He said: "She came back and I could tell that something was wrong. She said, 'I'm sorry but we can't find your son'.

"A couple of teachers started looking for him everywhere in the school but not all of them, just a couple of teachers, and they were not professional to me, because there was panic, and the teacher was crying. She had tears in her eyes."

The 25-year-old was then forced to endure an anxious wait for his son as the staff scrambled to search for the child. He says pushing his other son in a pushchair was the only thing helping him to keep it together in that moment.

Lukas said: "If he was not with me, I would have feigned out. I was holding tight to the pushchair so I didn't faint.

"I was praying straight away. 'Jesus, Jesus, please God.' I believe he had an angel who was taking care of him."

The dad's prayers were answered after a teacher found the child, who had wondered onto the road outside the school. The father says his five-year-old will not be returning to the school after the incident.

Lukas said: "He only just turned five - he's really tiny and when I saw him... I was already crying but I started crying even more but it was tears of joy:

"I just want to be heard so that parents don’t go through what I've been through. That's the main and most important thing.

"I want to just make people aware. I refuse to bring him back to that school."

Lukas claims a teacher told him a similar incident has happened before. After reuniting with his five-year old, the father returned home and rang the police who were, according to Lukas, confused about why the school had not reported the incident themselves.

A Newbury Park Primary School spokesperson said: "The safety and welfare of children at our school is our number one priority. We can confirm an incident concerning a year one pupil occurred earlier this week. We are treating this with the utmost seriousness.

"We've conducted an urgent and thorough investigation surrounding the circumstances of the incident. We will do everything we can to prevent anything like this from happening again.

"Following our investigation, we will submit a report to the local authority, Chair of Governors and The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), which includes several recommendations relating to improved security measures at the school. We are in touch with the pupil's parents and have offered our sincerest apologies for what happened."
