Dad 'heartbroken' after driver ploughs BMW into family home then flees when he tried to help

A devastated dad has described the moment a reckless driver ploughed into his home then fled when he tried to help. Shah Rejack had just returned home after six months away while an extension was built when he heard a loud bang.

The father-of-three ran from the kitchen to see a BMW rammed into the side of his house in Cow Lane, Oldham. Shah, who has a pregnant wife, helped the injured driver and passenger.

But when he ran to the shop to grab them bottles of water, they fled the scene and left him with a £8,000 repair bill. Devastated Shah told the Manchester Evening News : “I was minutes away from disaster.

“I’d finished in the toilet and just come out, washed my hands and heard a big bump. I thought it was an earthquake.

"I came out my house and saw a car rammed into my house. The driver was holding his leg.

Shah says the cost of the repairs has left him 'heartbroken' (Shah Rejack)

"There was a cut on his leg, and the passenger seemed to be in pain. I was thinking more of them than the house and asked them if they’re okay."

Shah said he attempted to help the two men who ‘seemed genuine’ but fled the scene when he went to the corner shop to buy them water on September 15.

The devastated dad said the hit-and-run damage will cost £8,000 to fix and happened just days after his new extension was finished.

Shah added: “I’ve got two kids and a pregnant wife, and it’s left me and my family in a bad situation. I’m going to be honest, I’m heartbroken. It’s too much, I’m in so much debt now.

“Where do I get £8,000 for this now. I can’t have these guys getting away with this. "

A spokesperson for GMP said: "I can confirm this was reported to us and the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Anyone with information about them should contact us via LiveChat or by calling 101 quoting incident 2069 of 15/09/2022."
