Dad dies on holiday with pals in Highlands after group get into difficulty in Glencoe

An experienced hillwalker died after getting into difficulty with friends while scaling a mountain in Glencoe.

Dad-of-one Jarosław Ringart, known as Jarek, was on a hiking holiday with pals in the Three Sisters of Glencoe area near Ballachulish, when the tragedy happened on February 10.

The stricken group were aided by Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and the Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter but the 43-year-old was pronounced dead near the summit of Stob Corie nan Lochan.

All other members of the group were traced safe and well report the Record.

Jarosław, who was originally from Poland but lived in Cumbria, was an experienced climber who had recently completed a hike in Yorkshire for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, the biggest non-profit organisation in Poland.

He leaves behind wife Beata and their young daughter. Loved ones have described the engineer as an absolute legend' and 'true gent'.

Martin Mcmullen added: "One of the nicest people I ever worked with. Rip my polish friend. God bless you and your family."

Alison Hetherington also wrote: "Jarek there are not enough lines or words to be able to express what an amazing guy and friend you were,not only to me but everyone you crossed paths with. A true gent.

"The world will be a little less brighter without you in it. Sleep tight and know you will never be forgotten. All my thoughts and love are with your family."

A Gofundme has been set up to cover the costs of Jarosław's funeral and help support his heartbroken family.

Organiser Joanna Connolly said: "Jarosław loved the great big outdoors, hiking and getting to the top of every hill, fell, mountain, and that's where he left his heart. Jarosław was larger than life. Always smiling, helping others."

"He meant so much to so many, but he was truly the world to his wife and daughter. They have to deal with the aftermath of his sudden departure and are trying to deal with everything as it comes."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.45pm on Friday, 10 February, we received a report of a group of walkers in difficulty in the Three Sisters of Glencoe area near Ballachulish.

“All but one of the group were traced safe and well.

“The body of a 43-year-old man was recovered near the summit of Stob Corie nan Lochan.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
