Dad died alongside beloved pet dog after both were hit by car while out walking

A family has been left heartbroken after an "amazing" dad died alongside his beloved pet dog when they were both hit by a car. Craig Dixon had been out walking his dog Duchess in North Yorkshire when they were reportedly hit by a silver Citroen C3 on Friday, December 2.

Members of the public who were also in Westgate in Guisborough when the crash happened at around 4.40pm rushed to help Craig, 39, and call 999, YorkshireLive reports. Medics arrived and took him to hospital but sadly he passed away.

Duchess also passed away from her injuries. A man, aged 38, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Cleveland Police said.

As police urge anyone who has dashcam footage or saw what happened to come forward, the devastated friends and family of Craig have shared their shock at the death of the "amazing" dad, who had two daughters. He was called a "legend" by friends who are mourning his loss.

Christopher Braker wrote online: "Known you for a year or two mate...always spoke about trips away and you going camping with the kids. You are a legend bud but I'm absolutely devastated you're gone before your time. Fly high my friend and I'll meet you up there one day for a pint."

Daniel Karl posted: "Craig was an amazing guy. Thoughts are with his family at this sad time." Faye Hewitt said: "RIP Craig mate. Love ya fella. From ya old pal Matty."

Anna McLoughlin posted: "Gutted to read this sad news. Have very fond memories of Craig Dixon at Heedsbury where we drank far too much! Lovely lovely lad, my heart goes out to his family, his partner and his two beautiful daughters."

Lana Rose said: "I'm so shocked. Craig was so lovely. Heartbroken for his family and close ones. My thoughts are with his family."

James Dyson posted: "RIP Craig. Many happy memories growing up as kids. You'll be missed."

Cleveland Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police - as well as any motorists who have dashcam from the Westgate area of Guisborough shortly before, during and after the incident - to get in touch. Please contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number, quoting ref 217628."
