Dad 'collapsed in shock' after his only son, 8, killed by being knocked down in street

A heartbroken dad "collapsed in shock" when his only son was knocked down and killed by a car, a witness said.

The eight-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle on Green Lanes in Enfield, north London, at 6.43pm on Friday.

He was taken to the hospital after receiving first aid at the scene but he tragically died, the Metropolitan Police said.

The manager of the Anokhi Indian restaurant on Green Lanes said a waitress witnessed the accident as she stepped off the bus.

He added that the boy's dad "collapsed in shock" and medics were trying to wake him up while he was on the floor.

The man added his staff heard the little boy was the man's only son - adding that his staff were "traumatised" and had "tears in their eyes" following the tragedy.

He told the Evening Standard: "Our waitress came off the bus and saw it happen and then saw the little boy. I couldn't face going out but my team did. I only saw the dad on the floor.

"He had collapsed in shock. That's what I saw, the medics were trying to wake him up."

He added: "My staff were all so traumatised when they came back. They all had tears in their eyes, it was awful. We heard that he was their only child."

Yesterday, the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation and an appeal for witnesses to provide dashcam footage following the tragic crash.

The force said in a statement: "Police were called at 18:43hrs on Friday, 28 April, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Green Lanes, N21.

"Emergency services attended. The pedestrian – an eight-year-old boy – was given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he later died.

"His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

"The driver of the car stopped at the scene. There has been no arrest.

"The Serious Collision Investigation Unit are leading enquiries and ask anyone with material or information that could help to call 0208 597 4874 quoting CAD 6124/28Apr23.

"Alternatively call 101 or tweet @MetCC using the same reference.

"To remain 100% anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
