Dad chased ex partner and baby down M62 at 100mph

A dad chased his ex, her new partner and his own eight month old child down the M62 in a 100mph pursuit.

Daniel Jones followed the terrified mum of his child all the way to a police station before getting out and screaming that he was going to kill her new partner. The terrifying incident came days after the 25 year old sent obscene messages to the man.

Callum Bryce, prosecuting, told Liverpool Magistrates’ Court that Jones and his ex had been in a relationship for five years and had a child together. The pair later split and the woman later got into a new relationship. However, Jones, from Widnes, began sending offensive messages to the man in March this year.

On March 24 he then saw his ex and her partner with his eight month old child in Victoria Park in Widnes. They left the park in their car to avoid him but he then began to follow them. Mr Bryce said they then got onto the M62 in an effort to lose Jones but he continued to chase them, going at 100 miles per hour and bumping the back of their car at one point.

This pursuit went on for miles until they led him to Edge Lane Police Station. Jones then started screaming at the couple as they sat terrified in their car. Mr Bryce said: “Mr Jones got out of his car and shouted ‘I’m going to kill you, let’s get this over and done with’.”

Officers inside the station were outside by this point and managed to detain Jones, who has no previous convictions. He admitted dangerous driving and sending an offensive message on Thursday morning.

Amy Butler, defending, requested a pre-sentence report for Jones be completed by the probation services. Jones, of St Patrick’s Close, was bailed until his sentencing hearing next month and magistrates handed him an interim driving disqualification to stop him getting behind the wheel until then.
