With less than two weeks to go before training camp begins, we are now in what might as well be called the playoffs of rankings season. At this point there isn’t anything left to talk about except playing a game of who’s-best at every position in the NFL.
Heading into the 2022 season, wide receiver might just be the strongest unit on this Seattle Seahawks roster. This group is led by the incredibly gifted athlete that is D.K. Metcalf, who’s entering his fourth year in the league. In a recent poll by ESPN, Metcalf was ranked No. 10 among the NFL’s top wide receivers.
“Metcalf — who is in line for a massive contract extension from Seattle — played through several issues last year, including a nagging foot injury, erratic quarterback play and consistent double-teams from the coverage. But he still produced 12 touchdowns on 75 catches, along with 967 yards. He is not considered an elite route-runner but has improved considerably since entering the league in 2019.”
We won’t argue the spot. After all, this is a stacked group of elite pass-catchers and we most-recently ranked D.K. No. 11 in the league, one spot ahead of teammate Tyler Lockett.
For now this is probably about the correct place to put Metcalf compared to his peers. That being said, we have a feeling that by November the top of this list could look very different based on the early results in 2022. Our money is on either Metcalf or Justin Jefferson of the Vikings being on top of these rankings.
