D Gukesh wins World Chess Championship

World Chess Champion D Gukesh

New Delhi: India’s Grandmaster D Gukesh on Thursday defeated China’s Ding Liren in the 14th round to win the World Chess Championship 2024 title in Singapore. 

Becomes Youngest Champions

With this win, the 18-year-old became the youngest world chess champion, beating the record previously held by Garry Kasparov.

The Chennai-lad became the first Indian to win the World Chess Champion in 12 years. In 2012, Viswanathan Anand defeated Boris Gelfand to lift the championship. 

The tenage sensation qualified for the prestigious tournamanet after winning the Candidates tournament earlier this year.
