D&D London restaurant group announce closures across UK, including Radici

A loss for London: Francesco Mazzei's Radici will shut this month

The restaurant group D&D London has announced a number of high profile closures set for this month, including Avenue in St James and the popular Radici in Islington.

D&D, which operates more than 40 restaurants across the UK, and last year opened its first Birmingham site in Orelle, said the decision is down to “economic challenges”.

In a statement, the company said: “Like many other businesses in the hospitality sector, we continue to strategically review our portfolio and such a decision is a result of the current economic challenges including spiralling utility, food and beverage costs and the unstable labour market.”

As well as the American-inspired Avenue and the Italian restaurant Radici, overseen by the chef Francesco Mazzei, East 59th in Leeds, and Kosterhaus in Bristol will also shut. All four sites are expected to cease trading at some point in January.

D&D said the group will try to find alternative positions for staff at the closing restaurants.

The statement added that its remaining venues are continuing “to trade well”.

While little is presently known, the Standard has asked D&D for further comment.
