D-Backs’ All-Star Corbin Carroll Exits vs. Mets With Apparent Shoulder Injury

Diamondbacks All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll missed the remainder of Thursday’s 9–0 home loss to the Mets after sustaining an apparent shoulder injury in the seventh inning.

Carroll, a favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year, appeared to be in noticeable pain after grabbing his right shoulder following a swing in his third at-bat of the night. The standout rookie took off his helmet before being led into the clubhouse by a team trainer while holding his arm.

Carroll’s unfortunate exit added to an all-around off night for the NL West-leading Diamondbacks (50–38), who will head into the All-Star break with questions surrounding the health of the 22-year-old first-time All-Star.

While the extent of the injury remains unknown, Carroll has notably dealt with right shoulder injuries in his young career. He underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in May 2021 while playing High-A ball, and recently missed games on June 30 and July 1 against Angels due to a shoulder injury that forced him out of a June 29 loss to the Rays in the third inning.

Thursday’s game marked Carroll’s fourth since returning from the injury, though the Seattle native may now be in jeopardy of possibly missing more games, including the chance to play in his hometown on July 11.

The rookie lefty has turned in an impressive debut campaign thus far en route to becoming one of MLB’s best players. On the season, Carroll is hitting .290 with 17 home runs and 46 RBIs to go with 24 stolen bases.
