Cyriel Dessers to Rangers transfer latest as move 'close' after £4.2m Cremonese compromise

Rangers could be about to land their Alfredo Morelos replacement with reports in Italy suggesting Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers is 'close' to a move to Ibrox.

Dessers has been the main man linked throughout the last few weeks alongside Atalanta star Sam Lammers, with Beale keen to bring a fourth reinforcement into the fold after the signings of Jack Butland, Dijon Sterling and Kieran Dowell were confirmed. And according to Corriere dello Sport, Dessers is now close to a move to Ibrox. Record Sport previously revealed that Cremonese were holding out for the £6.5m they paid for him last summer but they backtracked on that earlier this week to compromise on a deal worth around £4.5m. New reports state that a deal in that ballpark - with £4.2m stated this time - has been agreed and is close to completion.

The Nigeria international scored six goals in 26 league games as the Italian side were relegated in 19th place, four points from survival. However, having excelled in European football with 10 strikes in 13 games for Feyenoord in their Europa Conference League run back in 2021-22, his experience and explosiveness could well be ideal for Michael Beale to add to his squad.

Morelos had been Rangers' frontman for quite some time having joined in 2017, and the Colombian quickly became a fan favourite for his strike-rate and controversial attitude which saw him become the Light Blues' leading goalscorer in European competition. However, it quickly became quite apparent that his fitness levels had started to waiver, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst becoming somewhat irked by his antics earlier last season before he was sacked.

The same occurred for Michael Beale, and after dropping in and out of the starting XI and with patience running low, the former HJK Helsinki striker departed the club this summer after his contract expired and Beale is now on the lookout for a new No.9.
