Cyriel Dessers taking important Rangers steps to become more clinical striker

Rangers manager Philippe Clement believes Cyriel Dessers is taking a lot of steps to be more clinical in front of goal.

The Light Blues talisman netted the decisive goal as Rangers defeated Heart of Midlothian at Ibrox on Sunday.

Dessers, 29, was signed from US Cremonese in July 2023, with former Rangers boss Michael Beale handing the striker a four-year-deal.

Since then, he has scored 32 times from 74 appearances. However, he's often singled out for criticism by many within the Rangers fan base.

This season, Dessers has delivered a solid return of 10 goals and its not even mid-November yet.

"He's just somebody who gives everything for the team," a defiant Clement said during his post-match press conference.

"He does everything to score goals, but also works hard for the team.

"He doesn't score every game. I think if you are a striker and you score every game for Rangers then you won't stay long at Rangers.

"He's scored already quite an amount of goals this season. Could he have scored more? Yes. Are we working on that? Also yes.

"If you see one year ago where he was at this moment, I think I came in around one year ago and he scored about three goals in that period. He's scored already much more in this period until now this season and in the period from last season.

"So, he's taking steps in that way and he scores a lot of important goals. He just needs to continue that way."
