Cyriel Dessers can be Rangers 20 goal man as 'predator' backed to fill Alfredo Morelos void

Cyriel Dessers has been backed to bag 20 goals for Rangers next season - if he signs on at Ibrox.

Record Sport exclusively revealed that the Light Blues had made an offer for the Cremonese forward and that the Serie A outfit were seeking £6.5million. But a compromise appears to have been reached with talks advancing over a deal for the 28-year-old.

Atalanta’s Sam Lammers could join him in Glasgow. The Dutchman is another frontman that Michael Beale has targeted and discussions with the Bergamo club are ongoing. But former Ibrox favourite Sergio Porrini is excited at the prospect of Dessers arriving, and reckons he can replace the goals that Alfredo Morelos used to score prior to an indifferent final season. He told the Scottish Express: "He can score more than 20 goals, I'm sure of that. Fifteen goals would be the first target but, if he starts well, I wouldn't be surprised to see him score more than 20.

"Cyriel has big shoes to fill in Alfredo Morelos. It's not easy to replace a player who has done so well, but I'm sure Cyriel can more than replace him. He's the sort of player the fans will love. He's at the right age, has good experience and won't be fazed about replacing a player like Morelos. He's played in a number of good leagues and scored goals. He'll be confident in his ability."

Porrini reckons Dessers will thrive playing in a dominant team, rather than thanklessly grafting up top for little reward at struggling Cremonese. He added: “Rangers would be signing a very good striker. He will suit Scottish football more than maybe Italian football. He looks to be the right fit for Rangers.

"If he is a first-choice striker for Rangers, he'll score a lot. It's a lot easier than playing for a small team here in Italy. Rangers are a big team and club and most of the time they are in possession and are attacking. Cyriel did well in Serie A. It was a relatively young team and they ended up being relegated.

"Cyriel scored a few goals in the league and cup. He maybe didn't score as many as he'd like but he didn't really play in a team who created a lot of chances or attacked a lot. In fairness to Cyriel, he created a lot of chances for himself. He is a predator."
