Cypriot President Vows To Continue Humanitarian Aid To Gaza

A ship carrying aid sails off the shore of Gaza, as seen from central Gaza Strip

The maritime corridor delivering humanitarian aid from Cyprus to Gaza will continue, as affirmed by the Cypriot president. Nikos Christodoulides expressed his condolences over the tragic loss of seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers in Gaza during a news conference with the European Parliament’s President Roberta Metsola in Cyprus. The Amalthea Initiative, which involves shipping aid to Gaza by sea, will persist due to the ongoing humanitarian needs in the region. The vessels 'Open Arms' and 'Jennifer' have been utilizing the port of Larnaca in Cyprus as a base for delivering aid to Gaza.

World Central Kitchen (WCK), a key player in the maritime corridor initiative, announced the immediate suspension of its operations in the area following the incident. President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into the tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences to WCK and the nations affected by the loss of their citizens.

Despite the somber events, Christodoulides urged for a redoubling of efforts to provide increased assistance to address the escalating needs in Gaza. The president emphasized the resilience and determination required to overcome challenges and continue supporting those in need.
