Cyclist suffers serious injuries after being knocked off bike by man on motorcycle in Lanarkshire hit and run

A cyclist is suffering serious injuries after a hit in run by two men on dirt bikes left him in hospital.

One of the motorcyclists struck the 54-year-old victim causing him to fall from his bicycle.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the A725 from the Raith Interchange towards Blantyre and he was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Hairmyres for treatment.

The motorcyclist responsible did not stop and continued in the direction of Blantyre.

The other rider stopped and asked the cyclist if he was ok but did not stay at the scene and made towards Bothwell.

The incident happened at around 1.15pm on Sunday, April 10.

Police in Lanarkshire are now appealing for information to identify the two motorcyclists involved.

The person responsible was wearing colourful motocross clothing and a helmet. The dirt bike was florescent green and white.

The second rider was driving a yellow and white dirt bike. He is described as white, in his early 20s, short blond spikey hair, slim build, clean shave and, also wearing colourful motocross clothing and spoke with a local accent.

Constable Sarah McDowall told Lanarkshire Live : “We are appealing to anyone who may be able to identify these two riders to come forward.

“We would also be keen to speak to any passing motorists who may have dashcam footage from the area.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 1691 of 10 April.”
