Cyclist left with facial injuries after 'serious' assault in Lanarkshire town

A 51-year-old man was hospitalised with facial injuries after a “serious assault” in East Kilbride.

Now police are asking for help in tracing the man responsible.

The incident happened around 7pm on Sunday (March 6) when a man was cycling along a path in the underpass at Calderglen Road, near to Glen Farg.

The man was approached by another who stood in front of his bike, forcing him to stop. The cyclist was then assaulted before the attacker made off in the direction of High Common Road.

Detective Constable Ashley Hind told Lanarkshire Live : “This has been an unprovoked attack on a man out cycling, resulting in him receiving a serious facial injury.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think back and consider if they saw anything which would assist in our investigation.

“Any small piece of information could prove relevant so please do pass it on.”

The 51-year-old victim suffered an injury to his face and was treated at Hairmyres Hospital.

The suspect is white and was wearing dark coloured clothing with a dark hood up or hat on.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV footage for any additional information it could provide.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
