Police have confirmed that a 65-year-old man has died after a crash in Cardiff. South Wales Police have said that the man was riding a bicycle when he was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle travelling in the direction of Sloper Road from the city centre.
The crash happened shortly after 4pm on Tuesday evening (December 20) on Leckwith Road. Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed and the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
The road was closed from just after 4pm for nearly 12 hours and reopened after 3am on Wednesday morning. Welsh Ambulance Services has confirmed that they attended the incident and one person had been conveyed to the University Hospital of Wales in the Heath area of Cardiff.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed to Wales Online that they attended the incident at 4:30pm today. Four fire engines attended and they had to send a rescue tender.
There was gridlock throughout the city due to this crash and another incident nearby on the A4232 which resulted in a lane closure causing traffic to be "incredibly slow" throughout the city.
South Wales Police is appealing to any witnesses who have not yet come forward on the incident on Leckwith Road or who may have any dashcam or video footage of the incident to come forward and quote reference 2200424961
