Cyclist dies after serious A52 Bingham bypass crash in Nottinghamshire

A cyclist has died after a collision with a car on the A52 in Nottinghamshire. A large stretch of the Bingham bypass was closed in both directions on Sunday (May 7) following what police described as a serious collision.

Nottinghamshire Police has now confirmed that 62-year-old Henry Cressey, from Southwell, died as a result of the incident. The force said he collided with a car on the Bingham bypass at around 12.30pm.

Mr Cressey's family are now being supported by specially-trained officers. Sergeant Steve Waft, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a devastating incident and the family are still coming to terms with the shock and grief of losing Henry.

"Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time and officers will continue to support them over the coming days. I'd ask that their privacy is respected.

"We continue to investigate the full circumstances around what happened and our appeal for information remains - if anyone saw anything which could help please get in touch. In particular, if anyone has dashcam footage that could be useful to us, please give us a call.

"This is a busy road and the incident occurred in the middle of the day, so anyone in the area at the time should please contact officers."

The road closures in place on Sunday saw the A52 between Saxondale Island and Grantham Road being closed while investigations took place.

Tithby Road was also closed to prevent drivers accessing the A52, causing heavy congestion in the centre of Bingham. Police were on the scene for several hours on Sunday following the collision, with a shortened road closure still in place at 7.30pm.

Traffic between Bingham and Radcliffe on Trent was affected, with several diversions being put in place. People with any information on the collision are being asked to get in touch with police by calling 101, quoting incident number 306 of May 7.
