Cyclist acting 'suspiciously' leads to cocaine and heroin haul

Heroin and cocaine has been recovered along with £3,000 in cash after a cyclist was seen acting "suspiciously".

Officers noticed a man on a bike acting suspiciously yesterday (Wednesday, April 27). The man was spotted by plain-clothed officers who were on deployment as part of Operation Venetic on Robinson Road in Litherland at around 12.20pm.

He was then seen going onto a footpath between Robinson Road and Sterrix Lane where he was seen taking part in a suspected drug deal. The man was stopped and searched, with wraps of brown and white powder, along with £200 and two mobile phones, being recovered.

A 43-year-old man from Netherton was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs (heroin and cocaine) and possession of criminal property. He was taken into custody to be questioned and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A property was searched following the arrest and a further £3,000 was recovered along with a number of mobile phones and drug paraphernalia.

Inspector Jordan Quinn said: “Thanks to the vigilance of our proactive patrol in Netherton yesterday, Class A drugs capable of causing significant harm to vulnerable people in our community have been removed from the streets and a suspect was arrested.

"We know from public feedback how much drug dealing and its associated criminality affects the people who live in the areas drug dealers operate in, and how reassured those residents feel by our presence.

“Proactive work such as this is carried out by officers every day to ensure Sefton and the rest of Merseyside remains a safe place for our communities to live, work and visit and we will continue to listen to the public’s concerns and act on any information given to us.

“Information from our communities plays a vital part in bringing offenders to justice, so I would like to encourage the public to continue to come forward to us, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously, so that we can take action.”

If you have information on criminality in your area, please contact @MerseyPolice, call 101 or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
