Customers warned not to eat M&S chocolate bar in urgent allergy recall

Marks & Spencers have recalled a popular dark chocolate bar from its shelves following a issue with an undeclared ingredient on its packaging.

The supermarket's own branded Belgian dark chocolate had to be recalled this week after there was a presence of milk in the 180g bars, which was not declared on the packaging of ingredients. It affects products with a best before date of 09/11/2023.

The Food Safety Authority issued the warning on Monday over fears that the food could affect some of its customers. Consumers have been warned not to eat the chocolate if they have an allergy or intolerance to milk and can gain a full refund on the product at their local stores.

The FSA said: "The above batch of M&S Food Belgian Dark Chocolate bar may contain milk which is not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of milk."

There is no trace of the chocolate bar on the M&S website, although they are available to buy on other sites such as Ocado and British Essentials.

A similar issue happened with undeclared milk in a product last week when Tesco recalled Tesco Free From Golden Syrup Porridge Pots. This affected products with a best before date of 01/09/2023.

It has not been a great start to the year for Tesco on the product recall front after the supermarket had to recall one of its popular pasta dishes because it may contain “small pieces of metal” making it unsafe to eat.

The big four supermarket chain has asked customers not to eat its 250g Wicked Kitchen Spinach & Wild Garlic Ravioli on January 10.

This product is part of Tesco’s vegan range and is sold in the majority of its 2,800 stores across the UK. The items which are affected by the recall are those with a use-by date of January 12 2023.
