Customer queues from 1am to win year’s worth of Tim Hortons coffee as city centre branch opens

One lucky Manchester shopper has won a year's worth of free drinks from the newly opened Tim Hortons in Manchester city centre - and got up extremely early to ensure he was first in the queue.

Dan Clarke started queuing at 1am this morning, withstanding the great British weather to claim the prize worth around £3,100. The giveaway marked the opening of the Canadian restaurant on Market Street - the first of the chain’s city centre branches.

The store officially opened this morning at 7am, and promised the first person in the queue free coffee every day for a whole year, meaning Dan had queued for six hours to claim his prize.

The brand celebrated the opening of its first city centre restaurant by gifting the first 100 customers through the door a free breakfast meal, with giveaways running throughout the day for donuts and coffee.

Those that missed out or are unable to make the opening day are still in with a chance to get their hands on a freebie, as Tim Hortons are running a month of giveaways packed with exclusive deals. These promotions will be available to anyone who activates their Tim Hortons digital card - redeemed via scanning a QR code within the store.

Guests in central Manchester can now get their hands on its best-selling items, including Timbits, Iced Capps, Freshly Baked Donuts and Tims Crispy Chicken Sandwich as well as dinner favourites including beef burgers, hot dogs, and lattice fries.

Kevin Hydes, Chief Commercial Officer of Tim Hortons franchise in the UK, said: “The introduction of Tim Hortons in the city centre is a momentous occasion for us, having received such a warm welcome over the years from the community in Greater Manchester. We hope our new Market Street restaurant will become a staple venue for Tim Hortons fans, with our delicious, quality meals and baked goods now more accessible across the city, day and night.”

Over the past few years, Tim Hortons has been dotting its Canadian coffee shops around the UK, with seven Greater Manchester branches including Salford, Bury and Stockport - but their new Market Street venue is the first in the city centre.

The new city centre venue seats around 100 people, with huge windows downstairs for people watching, or a slightly quieter, cosier spot to get some work done or read a book upstairs. There is a till for ordering with an extensive menu, or for those a little more tech savvy, there are also touchscreens to place your order on before waiting at the collection point for your meal.
