Curtis Jones has 'point to prove' as he reveals double Liverpool aim

Curtis Jones believes he has a 'point to prove' as he looks to build on the 15 Premier League appearances he made last season for Liverpool. The midfielder had a tricky season to contend with after missing six weeks through a freak eye injury sustained in training.

Liverpool's number 17 is out in Bangkok with the rest of Jurgen Klopp's squad as he looks to put himself firmly in the thinking of the German boss for the first starting XI of the season.

Klopp has spoken about his decision not to pursue a new midfielder, until the summer of 2023 at least, and Jones may be able to stamp his mark on the Liverpool engine room.

When speaking to Liverpoolfc.com in Thailand, Jones said: "I see that every time that I'm here or [with] any chance that I get. So game after game or season after season is big. I'm ready now and I do think I have a bit of a point to prove.

"[Last season] was up and down. There were games when I played and played well, got a couple of goals and a couple of assists. Of course, I want to add to that.

"But then I was injured with the eye for five-and-a-half weeks and then I came back and got COVID and then picked up a smaller knock as well. It was up and down but now I'm ready."

When talking about aims for the new season, Jones wants to carry on winning trophies with Liverpool, but he also wants to contribute to the team on an individual level and keep his place in the starting XI.

He added: "The big one, of course, is trophies. Since I've been around the team, I've always been in semi-finals, finals and winning things, and last season we were in all four – it's perfect, I'd like that again.

"And on a personal note, to go in the team, take my chance, keep my place in the team and, of course, score and assist more goals."
