Curious Jota to Fenerbahce transfer link could allow ex-Rangers rival Kent move

Former Celtic winger Jota has been linked with a transfer departure from Al-Ittihad to Fenerbahce.

The 24-year-old left Celtic in the summer for a lucrative contract in Saudi Arabia. Celtic banked around £25m for the Portuguese winger.

However, Jota had endured a difficult time in Saudi so far having been removed from the squad list for league fixtures.

It means the player is only eligible to play in continental and cup competition - and in turn severely limiting his game time.

His last outing for Al-Ittihad came on October 23 in the AFC Champions League in his only competitive outing this month.

Jota, though, could have the option to move on loan for game time away from Al-Ittihad with Fenerbahce credited with an interest in the winger.

Fotospor reports that Jota could head to Turkey from Al-Ittihad with Saudi sources suggesting a move could happen - even if approaches to date have not yielded results.

In a curious twist, any move for Jota could see him switch out with former Rangers rival Ryan Kent who himself has struggled for minutes.

The ex-Ibrox attacker joined Fenerbahce on a free transfer in the summer but has played less than 500 minutes for his new club.

His last league start came on the opening day of the Super Lig season and he has been forced to settle for substitute appearances ever since.

Kent has been linked with a move to the Premier League but it's unclear whether Fenerbahce will sanction a departure unless a deal is struck to land Jota.

However, contrasting reports suggest Jota could only arrive should interest in Kent lead to a transfer exit from Turkey.

To further complicate the matter, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has claimed no players will move on until the end of the season.

He said: "We told the players and their managers. No one will leave until the end of the season."
