Curiosity in St Ann's as more tyres keep appearing in the area

Dozens of tyres have been spotted in St Ann’s with many people wanting to know why they have been left there. The tyres were first reported to Nottinghamshire Live on May 3 although it is thought they had been left in the area days earlier before two men rolled them to the entrance.

Nottinghamshire Live reported on the tyres making a ‘barrier’ at the entrance of a car park for the now closed down I.C Discount store on St Ann's Well Road. Now, more tyres have been spotted at another location.

Further down Wells Road, tyres can be found at the old Valley House GP Practice. It is unknown as to why these rubber tyres keep on appearing or who is leaving them.

Speaking to people in the area, many were curious as to why there’s so many tyres. Leanne Reid, 34 and a full time mum from St Ann’s, thought that the tyres were left outside I.C Discounts so that people wouldn't park there. But after seeing more tyres outside the old GP practice, she’s confused.

Leanne said: “I’m not sure why they’re being left all over. Is it someone trying to make a point about something? At first, when I saw them outside I.C Discounts I thought it was so people don’t park there but this morning, I noticed them further up the road. It’s a bit strange. It’ll be even stranger if even more turn up. It’ll take some time moving them all, there’s a lot of them.”

49-year-old Paul Bowley previously lived in St Ann’s but now lives in Stapleford. Paul said he thinks that the tyres were left out to act as a deterrent to travellers.

The I.C. Discount store announced its closure earlier this year after 28 years in business. Paul said he had fond memories of the shop.

“It was a convenient store, you could buy t-shirts and stuff," he said.

St Ann's support worker Cameron Dean, 30, has also noticed the tyres. He said: “I bet people will just take them as spares for their cars if they’re alright!

“I couldn’t tell you why I think they’re there but I doubt anyone’s going to come and collect all these. The council will probably move them if they get multiple complaints about it.”

St Ann's retiree Alice Morely, 68, added: “People have now given kids a reason to go out and roll tyres all over the place. Unless there’s a legitimate reason for them being there, I think that they should be removed because there’s no need for so many to just be dumped. The ones at I.C Discounts look a bit neater at least, the others are just scattered.”
