Cumbernauld Colts boss tells his side to aim high in the Lowland League

David Proctor wants his young Cumbernauld Colts side to aim for a top half finish in the Lowland League this season and get the black back to where they were in recent years.

Colts finished 14th last term and hope to be competing at the right end of the table this term.

That hasn’t gone according to plan so far with three defeats in their opening three games so far, following a 3-2 defeat to Bo’ness on the opening day, a 2-1 loss to Tranent last midweek and a 6-3 thrashing by Rangers ‘B’ on Saturday.

But Proctor, who takes his side into a clash at East Stirlingshire this evening, before heading for Dalbeattie Star on Saturday, said: “We are hoping to finish in the top half of the league this season. As long as we are progressing year on year, that’s all you can really ask.

“Last season we finished 14th out of 18 teams and in our standards in previous years that wasn’t what we have been used to.

“Cumbernauld have always been a top half team and with the league getting stronger and stronger, we need to make sure we are keeping up with these teams.

“We might not be able to compete with them financially, but there’s no reason for us not to go and compete with them on the park.

“We have to do that a slightly different way but we have to believe in the process that we’ve got, where we are bringing in a lot of young players and sprinkling it with a few experienced heads to help develop these boys.

“Then we just have to go and compete.”
