Cubs Score Most Runs in Two-Game Span Since 1897 During Demolition of Reds

The Cubs offense has been on a tear over its past two games, racking up runs at an absurd rate against the Reds. After scoring 20 runs during Tuesday’s rivalry clash, Chicago followed up that performance with 16 runs on Wednesday.

The Cubs’ 36 runs over their past two games are the most by the franchise in any two-game span since 1897, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

Chicago won 20–9 on Tuesday and 16–6 on Wednesday, handily taking both games by a total margin of 21 runs.

The team has scored 145 runs since the All-Star break, by far the most in MLB, as their bats have been scalding hot.

According to MLB.com, the Cubs scored 35 runs across a two-game set in June of 1897.

The Cubs improved to 55–53 following Wednesday’s win, three games behind Cincinnati for the NL Central lead. They sit in third currently, trailing the Brewers by 1/2 game.

Chicago has gone 13–6 during the second half of the season and has won 12 of its last 15 games. During that span, the offense has scored 10 or more runs six times, helping to keep the team afloat in the postseason hunt.
