Crystal Palace vs Manchester United prediction and odds: Back Reds to extend their fine run at Selhurst Park

The 2021-22 season has been an unmitigated disaster for Manchester United but Erik ten Hag's appointment has brought with it a cautious wave of optimism around Old Trafford.

When United go to Selhurst Park on Saturday the players that take to the pitch are fighting for their future at the club. Ten Hag will be in the stands to see first hand what he's got to work with and that in itself should be incentive enough for this group to demonstrate just why they are at Manchester United in the first place.

If they do that, United have a great chance of winning a fixture that they haven't lost in over 30 years. The Reds are 5/4 chances with Betfred, while Palace are 2/1 chances.

Those prices look about right given Palace were on the receiving end of an Everton comeback only two days ago, while United have had 15 days off since they last played. It's an unusual time to have such a lay-off but there cannot be any excuses for the Reds when it comes to fatigue and those circumstances dictate that they come into this match on the back of a much better preparation.

United haven't won an away Premier League match since their 4-2 win at Leeds on February 20, more than three months ago, which is nothing short of embarrassing. There is no getting away from it - their performance at Brighton was a disgrace, but a significant number of this group will want to be part of the Erik ten Hag revolution (if that is what it is) and they will not have a better opportunity to show just why they should be part of the group going forward as this.

Palace have had a decent season in the round but their recent form isn't anything to shout about - they have won just two of their last eight matches and they made pretty hard work of seeing off Watford in their last home game.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United prediction

Palace will want to give their fans a decent send off but you have to go all the way back to May 10th, 1991 for the last time the Eagles won this fixture and, after a brutal night at Goodison Park on Thursday, it's hard to see the hosts been in the best frame of mind for this.

United have a million issues right now but Erik ten Hag will be in the stands and that in itself should be sufficient incentive for these players to put in a proper shift. If they do, they can get a result.
