Crystal Palace make transfer approach for Cristhian Mosquera in bid to land long-term Marc Guehi replacement

Crystal Palace have made an approach for Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera.

Standard Sport understands the Eagles are one of a number of Premier League clubs who have enquired about the 19-year-old’s availability.

Mosquera has been a mainstay in Valencia’s defence this season and Palace scouts watched him at the beginning of last month. His contract runs until June 2025.

While centre-back is not one of Palace’s priority positions to address in this month’s transfer window, the Spain Under-19 international is on their list of potential long-term replacements for Marc Guehi.

Palace spent £18million to sign Guehi from Chelsea in July 2021. Amid interest from a host of top Premier League clubs, however, the England defender has never signed a new contract, with his deal due to expire in 2026.

Guehi could leave Palace in search of Champions League football in the summer, and sporting director Dougie Freedman is already plotting who could replace him as Joachim Andersen’s next partner in the heart of defence.

The Eagles are prioritising a full-back and a midfielder in January, after injuries to captain Joel Ward and central midfielder Cheick Doucoure left them light in both positions.

Loan deals are more likely than permanent signings. Securing a left-winger is also on Palace’s radar for the longer term.
