Crystal Palace hero makes prediction on Patrick Vieira's Eagles ahead of Premier League season

Clinton Morrison reckons Crystal Palace will be "bankers for mid-table security" in the Premier League this season.

Patrick Vieira's Eagles will be hoping to build on an impressive first season under his guidance, having finished 12th in the Premier League last term following his arrival last summer.

The Eagles are currently preparing for the new campaign, with Vieira out in Australia with several first team regulars and younger players for matches against Liverpool, Manchester United and Leeds United, while his assistant Osian Roberts is back in England with a number of other first team players and youngsters for games against Ipswich Town, Gillingham and Queens Park Rangers.

Palace's players will then join back up next week to face French side Montpellier at Selhurst Park in a friendly on Saturday, July 30, before the Eagles kick off the new Premier League season against Vieira's old club Arsenal on Friday, August 5.

And former Palace striker Morrison, who scored 112 goals for the Eagles over two separate spells, is confident that his old club can have another good season as he offered his verdict on what to expect in the 2022/23 campaign. Speaking to William Hill, he said: "This is the first time I’ve done a predictions piece like this and I’ve not spoken about Crystal Palace season on season being in a relegation battle. This season they’re a banker for mid-table security."

Morrison has backed Manchester City to win the league again ahead of Liverpool, while he reckons Tottenham could pip London rivals Chelsea to third spot, with the former Eagles striker describing Spurs' summer transfer business so far as "outstanding" and labelling manager Antonio Conte "a winner."
