Crystal Palace duo named in Premier League team of the week alongside Newcastle United defender

Crystal Palace have two representatives in WhoScored’s Premier League team of the week after their goalless draw at Newcastle United.

The Eagles managed to walk away from St James’ Park with a point in the bag after an action-packed encounter on Tyneside. Although there were a total of 42 shots at goal (23 for Newcastle, 19 for Palace), neither side could find a way to break the deadlock.

Patrick Vieira applauded his side’s solid defensive display and two of his players have made it into WhoScored ’s best 11 as a result, which is based on player ratings from the weekend’s Premier League games. Joachim Andersen, who made a total of 17 clearances, slots in at centre-back after achieving a rating of 8.2.

Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier was also rated the same and makes it into the team. Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure, who made a crucial goal line clearance in the first-half to deny Joelinton, has been named in midfield with an 8.1 rating.

Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita made a number of important saves to keep the scores level, most notably efforts from Aleksander Isak, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock. The Spaniard was rated 8.1 by WhoScored but the Eagles shot-stopper didn’t make the cut of their Premier League team of the week.

Instead, Jordan Pickford stands in goal after achieving an 8.8 rating during Everton’s goalless draw against arch-rivals Liverpool. Alongside Trippier and Andersen in defence are Chelsea’s Thiago Silva (7.7) and Joao Cancelo (7.3) of Manchester City.

Brighton duo Leandro Trossard (8.3) and Alexis Mac Allister (8.5) make it into midfield for their part in Albion’s 5-2 win over Leicester, joining Doucoure and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Ivan Toney’s perfect ten performance after his hat-trick in Brentford’s 5-2 win against Leeds United puts him up front with Marcus Rashford (8.8) who scored a brace in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Arsenal.
