Crusaders midfielder Declan Caddell set to retire at end of season

Declan Caddell is set to call time on his Irish League career at the end of the season.

Crusaders have announced that the 33-year-old midfielder will take up the position of Head of Academy at the end of the current campaign.

The no-nonsense midfielder has played over 500 times for the Crues, winning several major trophies including three league titles, two Irish Cups and the Setanta Sports Cup.

A one-club man, Caddell was promoted from Crusaders youth ranks to the senior squad in 2007.

This season he has made 24 appearances for the Crues, including 21 Premiership outings.

The club said on its social media: "Declan Caddell has announced that he plans to retire at the end of the current campaign to take up the Head Of Academy position at the Club.

"Caddell, who has played over 500 games for Crusaders, is excited to take up the new role and is looking forward to the new challenge.

"Steven Livingstone has been appointed as Interim Head of Academy until the end of the season."
