Crusaders boss Stephen Baxter says Josh Robinson will need reconstructive surgery after shattering his cheekbone in Friday night's Premiership win over Linfield.
The defender required a lengthy period of treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off and taken to hospital.
There were initial concerns Robinson had sustained a serious neck injury after challenging for a late header in the 2-1 victory.

Baxter told BBC Sportsound: "We were really, really concerned about him. I didn't get to sleep until 3.30am this morning. We were very anxious about Josh.
"He was rushed to hospital straight after the game. There was a lengthy delay to the game as he was stretchered off the pitch and then the ambulance arrived and was there for a good 45 minutes working with him.
"He was totally unconscious at the time.
"I have to thank the Linfield medical staff and our own doctor and medical staff who worked with him and their interventions were fantastic.
"We got him off to hospital and he got all the support he needed during the night."
Baxter said Robinson had now returned home to continue his recovery after spending the night in hospital.
"I am glad to report there is no damage to the neck which was our main concern. The cheekbone is completely smashed and will need reconstructive surgery which will happen in due course. And he has stitches on the various cuts on the his face," Baxter said.
"So a worrying time for him and his family and all of us, but we are pleased to say he is home today and back resting at home and we wish a very speedy recovery."
Crusaders came from behind to beat the champions last night.
Joel Cooper gave the Blues the lead but Philip Lowry found an equaliser before Jordan Forsythe swept home a late winner.
