Roberto Lopes and Cape Verde bowed out of the Africa Cup of Nations as they were reduced to nine men against Senegal in Bafoussam on Tuesday evening.
Midfielder Patrick Andrade and goalkeeper Vozinha were sent off in either half as the Blue Sharks were eventually undone by Liverpool striker Sadio Mané.
Crumlin defender Lopes was forced off at half time as he suffered a recurrent bout of food poisoning but his teammates held out for almost an hour.
Andrade was sent off after 20 minutes after the video officials reviewed a mistimed tackle on Papa Gueye and harshly produced a red card.
Vozinha followed him into the locker room early in the second half following a sickening clash of heads with Mané.
Liverpool sharpshooter Mané scored the winning goal shortly afterwards before being forced from the field with what looked like a concussion.
Substitute Bamba Dieng netted the clincher in injury time as Cape Verde were caught upfield chasing an equaliser.
