Holidaymakers have been left reeling after seeing teasing images of a new cruise ship that will feature the "largest waterpark at sea". Seven pools and six waterslides will adorn Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, with many shocked by its ambitious design after photos of the ship went viral on the internet.
Several said they could not believe the promotional shots, while others salivated at the thought of booking a place on board. One viewer posting as @heidistephens was not so excited at the prospect of a holiday aboard, reported the Mirror. She tweeted: "Can't stop looking at this picture of a new Royal Caribbean cruise ship. My son just described it as 'human lasagne'. Absolutely my idea of hell."
Heidi's post garnered a whopping 75,000 likes within hours of it being shared, but many disagreed with her. One fan said: "Looks fun! Especially if you have kids. All activities in one space." Another wrote: "This looks crazy!!! I need to go on a cruise…"
Someone else said they would not choose to travel on a cruise ship, but added: "As far as feats of engineering go, they are absolute futuristic marvels." Some people compared the ship to a layered cake, with one Twitter user asking: "Cake or ship?" while a joker added: "Yeah, I'd eat that cake."
The monster ship will also boast the tallest drop slide at sea and cruising’s first mat-racing duo, and has been described as having a "pool for every mood". Alongside its numerous pools and waterslides, Icon of the Seas will include a swim-up bar, a five-deck high park, the first suspended infinity pool at sea, a theatre — and an ice rink.
With a gross tonnage of 250,800, it will be the world's largest passenger ship ever built. Icon of the Seas is currently set to sail on a maiden voyage in January 2024, with bookings open now.
