As much as Kawasaki is acclaimed for its performance-oriented motorcycles, it also has a lineup of cruisers that are arguably just as impressive. For many years now, the Vulcan range has proven to be a lineup you could grow into, offering a spread of models of varying displacements. The common denominator? Unique styling and retro-inspired charm. For 2024 the Vulcan range has been given a slight refresh. Let’s take a closer look.
Let’s kick things off with the smallest of the bunch, the Vulcan S. It shares similar underpinnings as the rest of Kawasaki’s 650 series, most especially the 649cc parallel-twin engine. In the Vulcan, it pumps out a decent 61 horsepower and 46.5 pound-feet of torque. Kawasaki says that the Vulcan S has a “superbike-derived” chassis and suspension, but we all know that it’s really just a steel-trellis frame with telescopic front forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Nothing wrong with that, especially when it carries a starting price of just $7,349! That said, ABS and Cafe variants are also available for $7,899 and $8,499 respectively.
Up next, we have the Vulcan 900, which is more of a departure from the Vulcan S as it resembles an American V-twin cruiser. The 2024 model is still powered by a 903cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, V-twin engine, and trades some power for extra grunt and the unmistakable V-twin character. It’s offered in three versions, with the Classic featuring floorboards and a barebones cruiser look. The Classic LT gets a cushier saddle and leather saddlebags, while the Custom gets wide drag bars and flashy paintwork. Pricing is $9,399, $10,399, and $9,899 respectively.
For those looking for an authentic cruiser experience, the Vulcan 1700 series, offered in Vaquero and Voyager models, is the perfect bike for you. They’re powered by a punch 1,700cc fuel-injected V-twin, and come with features such as electronic cruise control, and K-ACT II linked brakes with ABS. The Vaquero features unique bodywork and a blacked out engine, and boasts an audio system with SiriusXM compatibility. There are also sealed saddlebags for touring comfort. It’s priced at $19,099.
Meanwhile, the Vulcan 1700 Voyager is touted as the “King of Kawasaki Cruisers” with its large bodywork and touring-ready features. It gets frame-mounted fairings complete with integrated luggage, as well as all the electronic features found on the Vaquero. It’s offered in Metallic Graphite Gray / Metallic Carbon Gray, and carries a premium price tag of $19,799.
