Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe remains hopeful of netting a new forward in time for the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.
With 24 days to go, Newcastle have kept their cool in the transfer window when it comes to adding more goal threat to their frontline after being quoted huge fees for Moussa Diaby, Hugo Ekitike and now Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak. At £50million the Sweden international's valuation is considered too high with Real president Jokin Aperribay almost certainly bolting a premium on the former Borussia Dortmund man.
United have scouted Isak for some time and he remains a legitimate target but the La Liga side could have to be more realistic with their demands. Newcastle still have other targets in mind as back-up and could well utilise the loan market but Howe is refusing to panic.

The head coach remains in constant dialogue with sporting director Dan Ashworth between training sessions in Austria. Howe is delighted with business so far especially as he has managed to clear some fringe players from the books with Ciaran Clark set for Sheff United and Jeff Hendrick signing for Reading.
One striker still keen to make the switch to Newcastle is Gabriel Barbosa. The Brazilian was watched by head of recruitment Steve Nickson earlier this month in Flamengo's 2-1 win over Santos but for now United have other targets in mind.
The next outgoing deal Newcastle would like to do is move Dwight Gayle to a Championship club. Middlesbrough were keen but have stalled on the striker.
Gayle still has two years left of his current contract and has been told to train with the second string.
